Squiggle Trooping Of The Colour

On Saturday 14th June 2025 The Trooping of the Colour this year was held at Horse Guards Parade to celebrate the Kings Birthday. Marking the official birthday of the British Sovereign has been happening for over 260 years.

It was a great opportunity for E.Kt. Mark Wright, of Lullingstone Preceptory No.155, to be invited to see the Household Division in all its pomp and glory, and with gorgeous weather the day was fabulous. It was the Colour of the Coldstream Guards that was trooped on this occasion and the spectacle was concluded with a fly over by the Red Arrows.

The Irish Guardsman next to E.Kt. Mark in the red tunic is a Sergeant, a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), as shown by the three gold stripes on his arm, the gold bands on his cap and also his red sash. The shamrocks on his collar are an indicator that he is of the Irish Guards. His medals are Op Shader (Iraq), Op Herrick (Afghanistan), Platinum Jubilee and Kings Coronation medal. His role at the event was to act as an usher.

The Soldier in the Flat cap is a Captain of the Wessex Yeomanry and a Commissioned Officer. The gold tassels are a type of ornamental shoulder decoration used as insignia of rank. His role at the event was to look after eight guests of the Duke of Cambridge.
